Promoting Sustainable Transport in Latin America

NESTLAC's three-year 'Promoting Sustainable Transport in Latin America' is aimed at raising awareness and building capacities on sustainable transport options among decision makers, city planners and other stakeholders in the Latin American region through individual demonstration projects. The project started in 2006 and is expected to be completed in 2009. It has three focus areas:

  1. Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) for Guatemala City's 'TRANSMERTRO' system

  2. Bus Regulation and Planning (BRP)

  3. Non-motorized Transport (NMT) on Concepción's 24 km bike lane

The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF ) and will be conducted by UNEP Risø Centre in collaboration with the local governments and regulatory bodies in the respective cities.
