Country programme preparation

The Government is committed to comply with the Montreal Protocol's limits before the stipulated date based on the availability of non-ODS technology, economic cost of ODS phase-out and affordability for the users. The strategy comprises, inter alia, introduction of an approval permit system to control the import of ODS; amendment to the Customs Order where necessary to declare importation of ODSs at the point of entry; initiation of CFC-12 phase out in new MACs from 1 January 1999 and in MAC servicing by 2006; minimization of the loss of ODS during maintenance of refrigeration equipment; discouraging imports of products that use ODS; promoting recycling and reuse of halons; and legal measures and economic instruments to ensure the effectiveness of the strategy.
