For the last eight years, Ms. Kakuko worked as Programme Officer in the Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA), regional arm for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Based first in Mexico City, Mexico, and then in Panama City, Panama, since 2007, she assisted countries with integrated environmental assessment and monitoring, promoting open and scientific assessment and monitoring processes that would generate policy-relevant information.
Prior to her UNEP assignment, she spent two years in UK as Conservation & Development Officer for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-UK), developing and implementing conservation and sustainable development projects in Asia. From 1995-1997, she was in charge of the coast regional office of the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya Association (WCK), a national NGO for environmental education.
Kakuko has co-authored several books and articles on environmental assessment methodologies, environment and health assessment, and youth-led environmental assessment. She holds BSc in Zoology/ Wildlife Conservation from the Fort Valley State College (USA), and MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Stirling (UK).
