Business & Industry Global Dialogue '08
UNEP and the International Chamber of Commerce co-hosted
Business & Industry Global Dialogue '08 in Paris on
23-24 October 2008. This 25th UNEP Consultative Meeting
on Business & Industry focussed on industry sector approaches
to climate action (Day 1), new approaches to advance resource
efficiency and the Marrakech Process on Sustainable Consumption
and Production (Day 2).
The event was attended by over 130 participants including
35 business organisations and industry associations, corporations,
labour union organisations, research institutions, Governments
and the European Commission, OECD secretariat and various
UN organisations. Conclusions from its sectoral group discussions
on climate change, sustainable lifestyles, product innovation
and related topics can be found in the Annex of the Meeting
report below. Follow up activities and a discussion paper
on industry sectors and business climate action will be
launched in 2009.
Speakers at Global Dialogue '08 included experts from leading
institutions and business organisations active in the terrain
of climate change and resource efficiency. Participants
also received reportback from the 1st meeting of signatories
to the Caring for Climate initiative of UNEP, UN Global
Compact and WBCSD that was held in Geneva two days before.
