Description / Synopsis Targeting Asia Pacific, well-known individuals from different countries in the region present perspectives on Ozone Layer protection and how people can make a difference. These Public Service Announcements (PSAs) focus on the importance of the ozone layer, the impact of ozone layer depletion on earth and human health, and the imminent 2010 Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) phase-out deadline. |
Context The key objective of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer is to make lasting changes to safeguard the ozone layer and our future. These changes can only take place through widespread dissemination of information and awareness activities. The Asia Pacific region has many remaining challenges to reach their phase-out targets, and the success of their compliance depends critically on awareness of their responsibilities and actions that relate to the health of the ozone layer and life on earth. |
Philosophy/Solution During the Joint Meeting of SEAP and South Asia Networks of ODS Officers in Bali, Indonesia, November 2007, it was agreed that UNEP would undertake the release of “My Ozone Wish” PSAs in 2008 and the network countries would consider using these PSAs through their national TV channels and disseminate them at different fora. |
Results The launch of these PSAs took place on May 20, 2009. |
