The City of Cape Town provides a free kerbside recycling collection service to many suburbs. Ongoing awareness and promotion is required to raise household participation rates in the programme.
Portraying the alternative to recycling as allowing the world to go to waste sends a strong message that by recycling, one is taking responsibility for the state of the planet.
From a start of 50% participation, the percentage of households now recycling on the service area (Far South Cape Peninsula) has risen to 78%.
