Description / Synopsis

The World Cup has returned to the home of ‘the beautiful game’ and thousands of fans have flocked to Brazil to cheer their nation on to victory. But the ugly side of the tournament that won’t be celebrated is the colossal number of air miles that will be clocked up. Graphic designer Sean Antonioli has adapted the national flag to remind us that there are greener ways to get around without leaving the ground. “The way I see it, thousands of supporters have flown all that way so you don’t have to,” says Sean. “Watching the matches on the big screen at the local pub can only be beaten by my living room, where I know I’m guaranteed to get a seat. Wherever you’ll be, it’s best to stay grounded. Between the action, take a moment to consider the excessive amount of traveling involved!”

Context

The skies above Brazil will be crowded with footballers and fans as they hopscotch between stadiums up to 1,950 miles apart. The trophy alone has travelled 92,942 miles just to get there. All that carbon. Those awful trays of tasteless food. It makes us travel sick just thinking about it. The only thing to fly this summer is your nation’s flag.
