Industry
Report Cards on Progress
The UN Commission on Sustainable Development meets annually
in New York with two-year cycles focusing on selected thematic
clusters of issues. For the 2006-2007 cycle the selected
themes were:
- energy for sustainable development
- industrial development
- air pollution / atmosphere
- climate change
UNEP DTIE, its business and industry partners and related
stakeholders made a special contribution to CSD on the theme
of "Industrial Development" at CSD 14 (2006) and
CSD 15 (2007). Following the invitation from UNEP, business
and industry partners prepared sector Report Cards to address
work in progress and challenges. The Report Cards were compiled
into an "Industry as a partner for sustainable development"
Progress Report, which was distributed by UNEP at CSD 14
in New York, May 2006. It was published in the form of the
publication "Class
of 2006: Industry Report Cards on Environment and Social
Responsibility". The individual sector Report Cards
can be accessed by clicking on the top bar cluster names.
The Report Cards event at CSD14 focused
on a range of practical steps that can be taken to ensure
that the business contribution to sustainable development
is both improved and accelerated. Judging from audience
feedback, and coverage in the Earth
Negotiations Bulletin (PDF - 215 KB), the event was
widely regarded as a success. For more information see the
event's
agenda (PDF - 61 KB)
