The Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (DTIE) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) contributed to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) with a number of mutually supportive initiatives, including: DTIE facilitated the preparation of a series of sectoral reports, whereby industry organisations take stock of progress towards sustainable development, and outline future challenges and actions to be taken. Building on this, DTIE has prepared an "overview report" presenting UNEP's assessment of the industry's commitments - as well as recommendations for the consideration of other stakeholders. Follow this link to find out more about these and other publications. In addition, DTIE organised a side event on "Energy for Sustainable Development" jointly with IEA and Eskom. Agenda items include security, access and performance of energy systems. A fourth session focussed on Type II partnerships and included the launch of the Network of Energy Centres of Excellence. Follow this link to find out more about this and other events. Finally, DTIE is leading a number of partnership initiatives which were launched on the occasion of the Summit. These are action-oriented initiatives that need only be agreed by those directly involved (so-called "Type 2" partnerships). They became one of the main outcomes of the Summit. Follow this link to find out more about the partnerships in which DTIE is involved.
