Preparations In preparation for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), a series of four Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) meetings were held. These were global in scope and complemented parallel consultation processes organised at both the regional and national levels. In addition to facilitating the reporting process presented in these pages, DTIE contributed directly to both the global and regional preparations. Global level DTIE organised a panel discussion at PrepCom II, which debated the potential of business and industry as a catalyst for sustainable development. On the occasion of PrepCom IV, DTIE's tourism programme led a side event that presented the report series "industry as a partner for sustainable development" [link to the reports page]. Finally, DTIE's energy programme will organise a side event at the Summit, jointly with IEA and Eskom.
DTIE launched a multi-stakeholder consultation process for identifying the main industrial development sustainability concerns. This process resulted in five operational documents, each of which served as input to the corresponding regional Preparatory Committee Meetings (the Ministerial fora mandated to outline the broader sustainable development agendas regionally). The links below give you access to the various regional assessment reports and workshop recommendations. The various United Nations Economic and Social Commissions, UNEP and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) were all part of this endeavor.
