Sector reports

Reports | Process and calendar | Participating sectors | Consultation

In February 2001 key industry stakeholders met in Paris for a UNEP DTIE-organised workshop to draw up guidelines for the production of the above reports. Workshop attendants felt that reliance on a common framework across industry sectors would increase the added value of such a reporting initiative.

By engaging in this process, industry associations commit themselves to producing an honest account of their industry's performance against sustainability goals. Such an undertaking is global in scope and has undergone the scrutiny of all relevant stakeholders (academia, civil society, government and labour).

In turn, UNEP DTIE has co-ordinated the overall process, facilitating dialogue with stakeholders and assisting industry associations at critical junctures. UNEP has also contributed to an overview report and is communicating the various outputs of this process.

Building on Agenda 21, these guidelines provided a common framework for industry to draft their reports. They detail the topics to be addressed, set out technical requirements and give a preliminary calendar for the overall process.

This report documents the outcomes of a February 2001 workshop, convened by UNEP DTIE to frame the sectoral reporting process. Specifically, the workshop called for a multi-stakeholder consultative process to strengthen the quality of the reports.
