An informal Workshop on "APELL for Mining" was held prior to the APELL Senior-Level Expert Advisory Group Meeting, on 14 May 2003. It was co-hosted by UNEP and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), and chaired by Prof. Roberto Villas Boas, from CETEM Brazil.
The workshop discussed a variety of APELL examples and implementation issues in the mining industry to lay the foundation for further work by UNEP and ICMM. Its specific aims were:
1. review of experience so far;
2. identify the key partners to APELL in Mining;
3. discuss the best way for key partners to work together in future;
4. review the need (if any) for updating the "APELL in Mining" Handbook;
5. decide on other elements for further work.
