Organised and coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Oxford University Centre for the Environment (OUCE) jointly with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) this international, high-level practical seminar for tourism stakeholders focuses on capacity building and pragmatic adaptation and mitigation techniques, tools and methods for developing countries and small island states to address the problems and meet the challenges presented by climate change. The seminar is sponsored by UNEP, OUCE and UNWTO (The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has also been approached to co-ordinate and cosponsor the seminar.
The seminar builds on the Davos Declaration, a key output from the 2nd International Conference on Climate Change and Tourism, and will result in the facilitation of tourism stakeholders' efforts to integrate the mitigation of and adaptation to climate change into their broader institutional, policy and national goals, and programs in a practical manner. The seminar will build the capacity of the tourism sector in developing countries and small island states to address the threats, challenges and opportunities of climate change and implement the Davos Declaration recommendations.
