South Africa National Roundtable on SCP
Boksburg, South Africa (August 2008)
The South Africa National Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption
& Production (SCP) was held in Boksburg on the 19th
August 2008. The National roundtable followed the fifth
African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption & Production
held in Johannesburg in June 2008 during the African Ministerial
Conference on Environment (AMCEN).
The objectives of this first South African National Roundtable
on Sustainable Consumption & Production were to:
- Raise awareness on the importance to adopt SCP patterns
- Identify country specific SCP priority areas and existing
initiatives
- Define policies and means to promote effective SCP implementation
- Promote country inputs to the global framework on SCP

The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT),
in partnership with UNEP and the European Commission (EC)
hosted the national roundtable.
