Oil & Gas and the Environment

Environmental issues surrounding the offshore oil and gas industry have attracted wide interest, both within the industry and from outside of it. Many government and community based groups now have ongoing initiatives in these areas and companies are pursuing and intensifying their efforts to prevent or control impacts. This has led to a lively debate on the environmental consequences of offshore oil and gas that is now in full swing.

Like any lively debate, it has attracted a wide audience. Industry, government and public groups are all involved in national and international conferences, action programmes and information campaigns - which means that a large body of information on offshore oil and gas now exists. However, this wealth of information has never been organized in a way that makes it readily available or easy to access. In fact, many interested parties are probably not even aware of the existence of large amounts of information relevant to their activities.

The Offshore Oil and Gas Forum (OEF) is a step towards remedying this situation: it is a web site that provides both a place where users can obtain information and an interactive forum to which they can contribute. Given the amount of information available, the web site does not attempt to store it all since that would require a mega-database. Instead, the site will provide a roadmap to guide you to existing information sources. Access is worldwide and use is free of charge.
