|| Circular Economy: An alternative model for economic development
Governments around the world are facing the challenge of addressing unsustainable patterns of consumption and production. China has set a target of maintaining rapid economic growth while at the same time improving environmental quality and keeping social progress. With a booming economy - an average annual growth rate of 8.7 percent over the past 25 years- these ambitious objectives can only be met by adopting innovative development path rather than conventional approaches taken in many developed countries. The Circular Economy is an alternative model that strives to respond to this challenge through cleaner production, industrial ecology and life-cycle management.
Prodev, an EC funded project, carried out by UNEP in partnership with the Municipal Government of Guiyang and the Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production, aims to support the development of the Circular Economy in Guiyang through the reinforcement of environmental policy framework.
